Some of you (especially those who do not follow our Twitter or Facebook) may be mystified by the lack of updates and general radio silence, when this blog generally doesn’t shut up. However, since we are in the process of going self-hosted and readying a special birthday surprise (that was meant to happen on our first blog birthday, but who’s counting?) we have been a little… tied up. Unfortunately, we’re not quite sure when the self-hosted stuff will be wrapped up, and it’s been taking some time. I’m not even going to blame Mercury retrograde for it, we just have a special talent for setting the internet on fire. Well… while we’re getting everything nice and ready so we can all celebrate our birthday properly (and trust me, you are all going to like it very much) I thought I’d make a nice little post for you guys. This post serves two purposes – one, to reassure everyone that we are not yet dead, and two, to compile all our geeky and nerdy and awesome holiday posts from last year in one helpful place. We’ve noticed an increase of views in our last year’s gift guides and whatnot, and while we will be making new ones for this year, the last year’s might come in quite helpful too. So umm… enjoy?
October was an unreasonably complex, confusing and chaotic month for us here at 3 Chic Geeks; we’ve done NYCC and we’ve done Geek Girl Con (well, CG did the actual con, we were there for moral and photoshoppy support on that one) and we’ve… gone a little crazy. Before we say goodbye to October, I just wanted to give you a thing. One thing. One awesome thing. You see… Unique Geek and I actually kept a running count of the cosplays we saw at NYCC and… yeah. I wrote it down. And then I made a nice little graphic for it. And I just found that graphic in the back of my NYCC folder. It’s below the cut.
Oh, hey, so NYCC happened, and you’ve probably already read Unique Geek’s review, with all of the nice photos and stuff. Well, today is my turn, and I’m going to use this post to cover three things – what you can expect at any con, what we learned at New York Comic Con, and what my side of NYCC looked like. This isn’t going to be the least inspiring like Unique Geek’s post; this isn’t going to be uplifting or hopeful or whatever. It’s… it’s a post. Not even a very interesting one. I just ramble about everything that happened at great length. There’s a gallery of photos at the end. Bored? You can read this. You’ll probably be entertained. It’s a post, okay? Okay, good. Moving on.
Okay, so, just before NYCC, we went over with you guys what you should definitely bring with you to the con, whether you’re based in the city or traveling up to it, and what your con attire should totally aim for if you’re not cosplaying.. Nifty, right? Now, this next part was carefully tested and learned over the past four days at last weekend’s New York Comic Con 2013 at the Javits Center; you can use some of these tips for any con at all, and some are NYCC-specific. It’s going to be especially handy when NYCC 2014 comes around!
It’s the very beginning of October, which can only mean one thing – fall con season is in full swing. We’ve got a ridiculous amount of conventions coming up across the United States – New York Comic Con, Geek Girls Con, Stan Lee’s Comikaze, Blizzcon 2013, Pacific Media Expo, and an insanely long list of local anime cons, various comic cons big and small, and oh my god basically all of the cons you can think of and some you can’t. (You’re welcome for those links, by the way.) We’re not exactly con-going experts, but we have learned a few things about cons, which we will pass on to you guys. While we’ve got Unique Geek’s Nerdy Fashion for Cons, we thought this subject needs a little… more. So, um, yeah… Here’s a comprehensive guide on what you should wear, what you should bring, and what you should expect, no matter what con you end up at.
We’re big on shipping around these parts, guys. We love ships. We love fanfiction. We love cheering for our ships even if they haven’t got a snowball’s chance in hell of becoming canon. And now… we are going to do a science and ask YOU what you ship. That’s right – we are doing a highly scientific analysis of what ships are the most prevalent around these parts. And we made a survey. You want to take this survey in the name of Asgard. It’s anonymous and takes about thirty seconds to take. HELP SCIENCE. TAKE SURVEY. Link below the cut.
Teasers, photos, metas, gifsets, spoilers and wild speculative theories for season 9 of CW’s Supernatural are left, right, center, above and below you. You can’t look at fireworks or airplanes in the night sky or shooting stars without sobbing in pain and cursing the name of Metatron; if you had a wish right now, you’d use it to sing the chorus of a Lily Allen song in his face (you know which one I mean). Going nuts from waiting for the next season of a show is one slippery slope – just look at BBC Sherlock. To keep yourself from going crazy until the next season premieres in October (so close, oh so close, yet not quite there), we recommend doing the things on this handy list. Just… to keep it together, just a little bit. Or not.
If you are a longtime reader of this blog, this headline may shock you just a little. We are very heavy on the BBC Sherlock content around here. All three of us, plus the interns, love Sherlock very much. And I suppose the headline is a little bit of an exaggeration. We’re excited to see season 3. We’re excited to see what creative torture techniques Mofftiss have come up with in the years away from 221B. But, personally, I’m very apprehensive about how the 3rd season is going to go, based on what little we’ve seen of it and previous experiences. I understand not everyone is going to agree with me on this, but bear with me – I just really, really want to say this for the record. I’m not excited for BBC Sherlock’s third season. In fact, I’m a bit terrified of it. And here’s why…
So, it’s fall, and that means for some of you it’s time to decide which college you’re going to and what your major is going to be and all this other stuff about what you’re going to do with your life for the rest of eternity. Personally, when I was that age, I wanted to be a rock star, or a time-space witch. Here’s a roundup of our favorite (more or less fictional) career choices from literature, television and film; we’ll break it down for you why each job is fantastic, and why you probably would want to avoid it anyway. Read on for our picks!
Ahh, can you smell the pumpkin spice lattes in the air? Can you hear the crunch of the fallen leaves beneath the feet of the weeping angels which surround you as you blink at an inopportune moment? Can you see those spooky… wait no, no, what are we talking about? I don’t remember seeing anything, do you? Where did these tally marks come from? …Anyway, it’s autumn, and we here at 3 Chic Geeks are absolutely psyched for autumn. I’m sure, dear readers, that you agree with us – what with the pumpkin spice lattes, Halloween, Supernatural on TV, orange things, plaid flannel, cozy layers, hot tea, NYCC, warm jumpers and caramel apple Milky Ways – autumn is clearly the superior season. Of course, along with all those other wonderful things, autumn brings a veritable oncoming storm of fall fashion options. We here at 3 Chic Geeks are always pondering the contents of our closets, and today seemed like a good day to spill the contents of our wardrobes on the floor and play in our stockpiled attire until we end up with Doctor Who inspired outfits. So, um, yeah. Here you go.
