Happy Halloween Eve, everyone! If you’re not feeling in the Halloween spirit because you don’t have a costume and it’s the day before Halloween, don’t fret. Here is our guide to the last minute Halloween scramble, you don’t have to settle for some cheap store bought leftover and you don’t have to spend more than 30 minutes of your dwindling time to look great.
Oktoberfest may be over, but we here at 3 Chic Geeks are just starting up a little festival of our own.
You may recall that a while ago we asked you all to take a survey on your favorite slash couples. You all responded with gusto. Now, over the next few weeks, we’ll be celebrating these slash couples with our very own October Slash Fest!
Well, we’re halfway there, folks! Third round out of five, and we’re here to shatter your heart and ask you to pick which shards you like best. It’s been peaceful enough so far, but things are about to get bloody. It’s okay, we’re in pain too, here – and only some of that pain has anything to do with the fact that GISHWHES is over and we’re now suffering from GISHWHES related PTSD. As for last round… BBC Sherlock decimated USA Psych, which, while not a surprise was a sad moment for me. Buffyverse overtook White Collar, and will be facing BBC Sherlock this round. Harry Potter continues to dominate, having taken out Teen Wolf with something like 90% of the votes. Ouch. Game of Thrones was locked in a bitter struggle with Hannibal for most of the last round, but in the end Mr Martin proved to be a more proficient killer than Mr Lecter. Cause, Game of Thrones? Everyone dies? Get it? ..oh, whatever. No one ever gets my jokes.
We’re finally at Round 2, despite GISHWHES kicking my ass completely and totally; my apologies to everyone who was waiting for Round 2. I guess I should think twice before taking on the fandoms AND Misha Collins at the same time! (Or, as my phone likes to call him, Misha Collision.) Anyway, I hope everyone is ready for Round 2; it’s going to be a little gnarly.
Okay, like, that last round? That’s what we meant by TERRIFYING AND BLOODY COMBAT. The BBC Sherlock and Elementary fandoms went AT IT like sworn enemies on prom night, man. We’ve never seen votes turn around that quickly twice in the space of two hours! Where are you people coming from? Is this what Steven Moffat feels like every day of his life? I will admit that I was cheering for the Elementary fandom to win after the initial shock of BBC Sherlock not being in the lead anymore wore off; even though I do not watch Elementary and think the female-asian-american Watson thing to be kind of gimmicky (played by none other than Token Asian Woman Lucy Liu? I mean, come on!) it would have been very interesting for the competition, if one of the guaranteed favorites had been toppled in the first round by a newer fandom. But yeah, in the end? No such luck. CBS Elementary may have owed BBC Sherlock a fall, but we’ve ended Round 1 with Elementary shot in the head on the roof, and BBC Sherlock tumbling off and staring at John wistfully from across the graveyard until
Season 3 Round 2 comes around.
As many of you know by now, I had the opportunity to go to San Diego Comic-Con as press for MTV Geek, and it was basically the greatest thing ever. Not only was this my first trip to SDCC, it was also my first real con… like, ever. Needless to say, it was one crazy-fun, crazy-hectic, crazy-crazy weekend. Here’s a run-down of my days, my review of the con in general, and some awesome cosplay. Because cosplay.
Game of Thrones Season 3 is over, and it has been quite the doozy. From “You know nothing, Jon Snow” to “Dracarys”, there have been awesome moments of ships setting sail, moments of triumph, and moments of watching everything fall apart in front of you. So whether you’re still emotionally scarred from the Red Wedding or already starting to feel those Game of Thrones withdrawals, we’ve put together an outline of what to expect at each stage of post-GoT recovery.
Note: The stages contained on this list may or may not reflect unhealthy ways of coping. We don’t know, we’re too blinded by our feels.
If you’re like me you probably spend half of every episode of Game of Thrones quietly gushing about how great Daenerys is and how she’s a strong independent Khaleesi who don’t need no slaves. Most of the time it’s because she’s busy being incredible, but some of the time it’s simply because her hair is busy being incredible. She’s a braid lovers dream, and I don’t know anyone with longer hair who isn’t constantly looking for new ways to put it back. Dany is my go to when I run out of ideas for how to keep my hair out of my face, and this style surprisingly practical (making it through many long and active days as a babysitter) and easy (If you can braid your own hair, you can probably finish this style in 10-ish minutes). As an added bonus it makes it look like you have a dozen handmaidens to braid your hair for you in the morning, and seriously who doesn’t want that.
The days are getting warmer and April has gone by in a whirlwind of… not actually getting a lot done. But May is here, and May is for being productive, right? Right. Nevertheless, let us take a look back at some of the nerdy news highlights from April 2013. Continue reading
It’s getting to be warm and sunny here in the Northern Hemisphere, which means one thing – summertime is on the way. Soon, graduates will throw their caps, gowns, diplomas and employment opportunities at the nearest Starbucks in the air and seek out a life filled with adventure, questing and mayhem. Or, perhaps some old wizard will show up at your door one day saying he needs one more person for his heist inside the Bellagio? Whatever. Either way, here’s a handy dandy guide for you on how to quickly and efficiently pack every single thing you might need for an adventure. Don’t leave home without it!
