#NYCC 2013 – The Asgardian Prince’s Tale

Oh, hey, so NYCC happened, and you’ve probably already read Unique Geek’s review, with all of the nice photos and stuff. Well, today is my turn, and I’m going to use this post to cover three things – what you can expect at any con, what we learned at New York Comic Con, and what my side of NYCC looked like. This isn’t going to be the least inspiring like Unique Geek’s post; this isn’t going to be uplifting or hopeful or whatever. It’s… it’s a post. Not even a very interesting one. I just ramble about everything that happened at great length. There’s a gallery of photos at the end. Bored? You can read this. You’ll probably be entertained. It’s a post, okay? Okay, good. Moving on.

The Fandom Wars: Round 1 Part 1

fandom wars

Buckle your seatbelts, folks, because things are about to get funky. And bloody. We’ve picked the fandoms, we’ve paired them off… and now, the battle to the death will begin. Well… death or elimination, really, but when fandoms come into question those two are about the same. It’s okay to be a little terrified, because this is a little terrifying. Please try to avoid killing people; voting is the only thing that’s supposed to get violent. So, get ready to smash your keyboard as you vote, and stuff… yeah. I’m going to presume you know what I mean by now, and go grab some popcorn in case there is a battle to the death between fandoms.

March Madness: Round 2

round two

After an intense first round, we have our Sweet Sixteen.

On the Fan Favorites side Johnlock, Wincest, Stony, Nuna, Bagginshield, Merthur, Legolas/Gimli and Destiel have all advanced. The slash couples have definitely done well in the Shipping Wars.

In the Canon conference The Ponds, Zoe/Wash, Buffy/Angel, Jack Harkness/The Universe, Romione, Black Hawk, Eowyn/Faramir, and The 10th Doctor/Rose made it to round two. While The Ponds are the favorite to win overall, there are some definite dark horses that could make it to the end. Continue reading

March Madness: Round 1, Part 2

round one

Part 1 of our Shipping Wars was a bloody battle to say the least. While it was smooth sailing for ships like The Ponds and Nuna, others had to claw their way to victory. Wincest had a very narrow victory over Kale, and while RumBelle dominated in day one, it was soon evident that Buffy/Angel was going to reign supreme.

We’ve had one big upset already, with the number 5 seed, Drarry, getting crushed by Stony in seed 12 for the Fan Favorites. Continue reading

March Madness: Shipping Wars

It’s that time of year. March Madness is upon us, and all over the nation people are carefully filling in their brackets and cheering on their favorite teams. While we have varying opinions on basketball here at (Freak Geek: “I do not concern myself with the ancient Mayan sacrificial rites, as they bring no benefit to the halls of Asgard.”), there is one competitive sport we all enjoy: Shipping.

Yes, that’s right. We’re going there. It’s going to be a bloody war, but in the end there will be one ship to rule them all.ย  Continue reading

As dedicated fanboys and fangirls, we all have a few characters we are at least a little bit in love with. Or a lot in love with. Or obsessed with. You know, that kind of thing. True love wonโ€™t be stopped by the constraints of reality, after all โ€“ you are absolutely certain that Dean Winchester is the man for you. Great, but we here at 3 Chic Geeks have extensively gone through every one of our fictional crushes and picked apart all the reasons why they would NOT be good boyfriends. Read on to find out what we think would be the dealbreakers for each of the characters!!

On My Love for Tolkien

Yesterday, the third of January, was J.R.R. Tolkien’s 121st birthday. I struggled to think of some way to celebrate it properly. Nothing I could come up with seemed to do the man justice.

There have been many brilliant minds in the realm of fantasy in the past century; none, however, have done quite so much for the genre as Tolkien has. He is arguably the father of modern fantasy. The Lord of the Ringsย is the paragon of the genre, the ideal which has influenced all subsequent works. He also happens to be the author that has been a constant source of inspiration and admiration for me personally.
