October Slash Fest: The Ship List

Slash Fest

Oktoberfest may be over, but we here at 3 Chic Geeks are just starting up a little festival of our own.

You may recall that a while ago we asked you all to take a survey on your favorite slash couples. You all responded with gusto. Now, over the next few weeks, we’ll be celebrating these slash couples with our very own October Slash Fest!

The Fandom Wars: Round 3

The Fandom Wars - Round 3

Well, we’re halfway there, folks! Third round out of five, and we’re here to shatter your heart and ask you to pick which shards you like best. It’s been peaceful enough so far, but things are about to get bloody. It’s okay, we’re in pain too, here – and only some of that pain has anything to do with the fact that GISHWHES is over and we’re now suffering from GISHWHES related PTSD. As for last round… BBC Sherlock decimated USA Psych, which, while not a surprise was a sad moment for me. Buffyverse overtook White Collar, and will be facing BBC Sherlock this round. Harry Potter continues to dominate, having taken out Teen Wolf with something like 90% of the votes. Ouch. Game of Thrones was locked in a bitter struggle with Hannibal for most of the last round, but in the end Mr Martin proved to be a more proficient killer than Mr Lecter. Cause, Game of Thrones? Everyone dies? Get it? ..oh, whatever. No one ever gets my jokes.

The Fandom Wars: Round 2

The Fandom Wars - round 2We’re finally at Round 2, despite GISHWHES kicking my ass completely and totally; my apologies to everyone who was waiting for Round 2. I guess I should think twice before taking on the fandoms AND Misha Collins at the same time! (Or, as my phone likes to call him, Misha Collision.) Anyway, I hope everyone is ready for Round 2; it’s going to be a little gnarly.

The Fandom Wars: Round 1 Part 2

The Fandom Wars Round 1 Part 2

Okay, like, that last round? That’s what we meant by TERRIFYING AND BLOODY COMBAT. The BBC Sherlock and Elementary fandoms went AT IT like sworn enemies on prom night, man. We’ve never seen votes turn around that quickly twice in the space of two hours! Where are you people coming from? Is this what Steven Moffat feels like every day of his life? I will admit that I was cheering for the Elementary fandom to win after the initial shock of BBC Sherlock not being in the lead anymore wore off; even though I do not watch Elementary and think the female-asian-american Watson thing to be kind of gimmicky (played by none other than Token Asian Woman Lucy Liu? I mean, come on!) it would have been very interesting for the competition, if one of the guaranteed favorites had been toppled in the first round by a newer fandom. But yeah, in the end? No such luck. CBS Elementary may have owed BBC Sherlock a fall, but we’ve ended Round 1 with Elementary shot in the head on the roof, and BBC Sherlock tumbling off and staring at John wistfully from across the graveyard until Season 3 Round 2 comes around.

931331_3068582050944_1331237146_n

The days are getting warmer and April has gone by in a whirlwind of… not actually getting a lot done. But May is here, and May is for being productive, right? Right. Nevertheless, let us take a look back at some of the nerdy news highlights from April 2013. Continue reading

March Madness: Round 3

round 3

Whew.

Round 2 of our March Madness: Shipping Wars was absolutely brutal. The battle of Johnlock vs. Wincest was by far the most intense we have seen yet. After going back and forth the entire time, Johnlock came out triumphant in the end. Stony, Merthur, and Destiel all made it to the next round for the Fan Favorites while on the Canon side The Ponds, Harkness/Universe, Romione and 10th/Rose round out the Elite Eight. March Madness: Round 2

round two

After an intense first round, we have our Sweet Sixteen.

On the Fan Favorites side Johnlock, Wincest, Stony, Nuna, Bagginshield, Merthur, Legolas/Gimli and Destiel have all advanced. The slash couples have definitely done well in the Shipping Wars.

In the Canon conference The Ponds, Zoe/Wash, Buffy/Angel, Jack Harkness/The Universe, Romione, Black Hawk, Eowyn/Faramir, and The 10th Doctor/Rose made it to round two. While The Ponds are the favorite to win overall, there are some definite dark horses that could make it to the end. Continue reading

March Madness: Round 1, Part 2

round one

Part 1 of our Shipping Wars was a bloody battle to say the least. While it was smooth sailing for ships like The Ponds and Nuna, others had to claw their way to victory. Wincest had a very narrow victory over Kale, and while RumBelle dominated in day one, it was soon evident that Buffy/Angel was going to reign supreme.

We’ve had one big upset already, with the number 5 seed, Drarry, getting crushed by Stony in seed 12 for the Fan Favorites. Continue reading

We Are Fandom, Hear us Roar

we are fandom, hear us roar - a discourse on how a fandom can make or break anything on the internet.

It’s a running joke that Tumblr is fueled by two things: hipsters and fandoms.  But mostly fandoms. Seriously, I dare you to find a hipster photography post that doesn’t get hijacked by the Supernatural, Doctor Who, Sherlock, or Merlin fandom at some point. I dare you.

The beautiful thing about social media like Tumblr is that it has generated even more participatory culture amongst fangirls and fanboys everywhere. It’s easier than ever to paint your favorite character, remix a song, or make a fan video and share it with millions on a variety of platforms where fellow enthusiasts can offer criticism, praise, and even their own responses. Let’s not even get started on the gifs. Some shows, such as BBC Sherlock, have been gif’d so much that you can probably watch the entirety of the series in gifs.
