Some of you (especially those who do not follow our Twitter or Facebook) may be mystified by the lack of updates and general radio silence, when this blog generally doesn’t shut up. However, since we are in the process of going self-hosted and readying a special birthday surprise (that was meant to happen on our first blog birthday, but who’s counting?) we have been a little… tied up. Unfortunately, we’re not quite sure when the self-hosted stuff will be wrapped up, and it’s been taking some time. I’m not even going to blame Mercury retrograde for it, we just have a special talent for setting the internet on fire. Well… while we’re getting everything nice and ready so we can all celebrate our birthday properly (and trust me, you are all going to like it very much) I thought I’d make a nice little post for you guys. This post serves two purposes – one, to reassure everyone that we are not yet dead, and two, to compile all our geeky and nerdy and awesome holiday posts from last year in one helpful place. We’ve noticed an increase of views in our last year’s gift guides and whatnot, and while we will be making new ones for this year, the last year’s might come in quite helpful too. So umm… enjoy?
Oh, hey, so NYCC happened, and you’ve probably already read Unique Geek’s review, with all of the nice photos and stuff. Well, today is my turn, and I’m going to use this post to cover three things – what you can expect at any con, what we learned at New York Comic Con, and what my side of NYCC looked like. This isn’t going to be the least inspiring like Unique Geek’s post; this isn’t going to be uplifting or hopeful or whatever. It’s… it’s a post. Not even a very interesting one. I just ramble about everything that happened at great length. There’s a gallery of photos at the end. Bored? You can read this. You’ll probably be entertained. It’s a post, okay? Okay, good. Moving on.
Oktoberfest may be over, but we here at 3 Chic Geeks are just starting up a little festival of our own.
You may recall that a while ago we asked you all to take a survey on your favorite slash couples. You all responded with gusto. Now, over the next few weeks, we’ll be celebrating these slash couples with our very own October Slash Fest!
Teasers, photos, metas, gifsets, spoilers and wild speculative theories for season 9 of CW’s Supernatural are left, right, center, above and below you. You can’t look at fireworks or airplanes in the night sky or shooting stars without sobbing in pain and cursing the name of Metatron; if you had a wish right now, you’d use it to sing the chorus of a Lily Allen song in his face (you know which one I mean). Going nuts from waiting for the next season of a show is one slippery slope – just look at BBC Sherlock. To keep yourself from going crazy until the next season premieres in October (so close, oh so close, yet not quite there), we recommend doing the things on this handy list. Just… to keep it together, just a little bit. Or not.
So, it’s fall, and that means for some of you it’s time to decide which college you’re going to and what your major is going to be and all this other stuff about what you’re going to do with your life for the rest of eternity. Personally, when I was that age, I wanted to be a rock star, or a time-space witch. Here’s a roundup of our favorite (more or less fictional) career choices from literature, television and film; we’ll break it down for you why each job is fantastic, and why you probably would want to avoid it anyway. Read on for our picks!
So, earlier today, I tweeted a link to a fic that had just been posted, written by an author I am quite fond of reading, and… you guys liked it. Okay. Well… since I’ve been having a bit of a creative block lately as to what I should post this week, I thought, why not put together a list of my all-time favorite fanfictions? The short ones, the long ones, the epic sagas that last eternity? True, I’m not in every fandom. My tastes are my own and might not jive with what you guys like. However… come on. Dude. It’s literature. Won’t hurt.
I am aware that
nearly all some a few a couple of these have adult content (such as violence, drug use, sexual content, etc) that may be not safe for work, not safe for school, not safe for church and possibly not safe for life. I will try to include any possible red flags in the description of the fics quite clearly, and without spoiling the plot of the story for you. However, I am fallible and merely human; since nearly all of these are hosted over on AO3, I recommend you read the story tags very carefully before you jump into the story.
Okay? Okay. Let’s read some fanfiction, bro.
It’s nearly fall, which means it’s time for fall clothes. Soon we’ll all be swimming in a sea of leather bomber jackets, flannel shirts, cosy sweaters, and so many layers you can’t even bend your arms anymore. Of course, we here at 3 Chic Geeks look to our fandoms to inform our major fashion decisions. We said to ourselves, “Who wears so much plaid flannel it hurts? The Winchesters!”, and lo, we bring you Supernatural inspired fashion perfect for fall.
Oh hey look so
Satan Loki Freak Geek made a poll. And it’s nearly over. And if you’ve been keeping up with it, now is the time for the semi-finals, and there will be no joy or happiness or anything here for you. There will be no comfort for you. Only death. So, let’s go and vote!
Well, we’re halfway there, folks! Third round out of five, and we’re here to shatter your heart and ask you to pick which shards you like best. It’s been peaceful enough so far, but things are about to get bloody. It’s okay, we’re in pain too, here – and only some of that pain has anything to do with the fact that GISHWHES is over and we’re now suffering from GISHWHES related PTSD. As for last round… BBC Sherlock decimated USA Psych, which, while not a surprise was a sad moment for me. Buffyverse overtook White Collar, and will be facing BBC Sherlock this round. Harry Potter continues to dominate, having taken out Teen Wolf with something like 90% of the votes. Ouch. Game of Thrones was locked in a bitter struggle with Hannibal for most of the last round, but in the end Mr Martin proved to be a more proficient killer than Mr Lecter. Cause, Game of Thrones? Everyone dies? Get it? ..oh, whatever. No one ever gets my jokes.
We’re finally at Round 2, despite GISHWHES kicking my ass completely and totally; my apologies to everyone who was waiting for Round 2. I guess I should think twice before taking on the fandoms AND Misha Collins at the same time! (Or, as my phone likes to call him, Misha Collision.) Anyway, I hope everyone is ready for Round 2; it’s going to be a little gnarly.
