Holidays Gone Geek: The Best of 2012

the holidaysSome of you (especially those who do not follow our Twitter or Facebook) may be mystified by the lack of updates and general radio silence, when this blog generally doesn’t shut up. However, since we are in the process of going self-hosted and readying a special birthday surprise (that was meant to happen on our first blog birthday, but who’s counting?) we have been a little… tied up. Unfortunately, we’re not quite sure when the self-hosted stuff will be wrapped up, and it’s been taking some time. I’m not even going to blame Mercury retrograde for it, we just have a special talent for setting the internet on fire. Well… while we’re getting everything nice and ready so we can all celebrate our birthday properly (and trust me, you are all going to like it very much) I thought I’d make a nice little post for you guys. This post serves two purposes – one, to reassure everyone that we are not yet dead, and two, to compile all our geeky and nerdy and awesome holiday posts from last year in one helpful place. We’ve noticed an increase of views in our last year’s gift guides and whatnot, and while we will be making new ones for this year, the last year’s might come in quite helpful too. So umm… enjoy?

NYCC 2013 By the Numbers: We Counted!

celestial012October was an unreasonably complex, confusing and chaotic month for us here at 3 Chic Geeks; we’ve done NYCC and we’ve done Geek Girl Con (well, CG did the actual con, we were there for moral and photoshoppy support on that one) and we’ve… gone a little crazy. Before we say goodbye to October, I just wanted to give you a thing. One thing. One awesome thing. You see… Unique Geek and I actually kept a running count of the cosplays we saw at NYCC and… yeah. I wrote it down. And then I made a nice little graphic for it. And I just found that graphic in the back of my NYCC folder. It’s below the cut.

Happy Christmas.

#NYCC 2013 – The Asgardian Prince’s Tale

1391694_3559416001486_1589191667_n

Oh, hey, so NYCC happened, and you’ve probably already read Unique Geek’s review, with all of the nice photos and stuff. Well, today is my turn, and I’m going to use this post to cover three things – what you can expect at any con, what we learned at New York Comic Con, and what my side of NYCC looked like. This isn’t going to be the least inspiring like Unique Geek’s post; this isn’t going to be uplifting or hopeful or whatever. It’s… it’s a post. Not even a very interesting one. I just ramble about everything that happened at great length. There’s a gallery of photos at the end. Bored? You can read this. You’ll probably be entertained. It’s a post, okay? Okay, good. Moving on.

Fall Comic Con Survival Guide Part 2: What To Expect (aka what we learned at #NYCC)

Your most comprehensive guide to what you can expect at cons this fall, what you should bring, and what you shoul wear. Great if you're going to NYCC, Comikaze, Anime USA, or Geek Girl Con.

Okay, so, just before NYCC, we went over with you guys what you should definitely bring with you to the con, whether you’re based in the city or traveling up to it, and what your con attire should totally aim for if you’re not cosplaying..  Nifty, right? Now, this next part was carefully tested and learned over the past four days at last weekend’s New York Comic Con 2013 at the Javits Center; you can use some of these tips for any con at all, and some are NYCC-specific. It’s going to be especially handy when NYCC 2014 comes around!

Event Review: New York Comic Con

NYCC 2013 photos and coverage from 3ChicGeeks.com

I arrived at New York Comic Con wide-eyed and naive. I left hardened, my body battle-worn, my sanity only partially intact but somehow with new hope for the group people I have suddenly found myself a part of.

Fall Comic Con Survival Guide Part 1: What To Bring

Your most comprehensive guide to what you can expect at cons this fall, what you should bring, and what you shoul wear. Great if you're going to NYCC, Comikaze, Anime USA, or Geek Girl Con. It’s the very beginning of October, which can only mean one thing – fall con season is in full swing. We’ve got a ridiculous amount of conventions coming up across the United States – New York Comic Con, Geek Girls Con, Stan Lee’s Comikaze, Blizzcon 2013, Pacific Media Expo, and an insanely long list of local anime cons, various comic cons big and small, and oh my god basically all of the cons you can think of and some you can’t. (You’re welcome for those links, by the way.) We’re not exactly con-going experts, but we have learned a few things about cons, which we will pass on to you guys. While we’ve got Unique Geek’s Nerdy Fashion for Cons, we thought this subject needs a little… more. So, um, yeah… Here’s a comprehensive guide on what you should wear, what you should bring, and what you should expect, no matter what con you end up at.
